Hitachi 6 Transistor radio

Hitachi 6 Transistor radio

Those of us over a certain mature age will have probably had several of these little radios as child. This set came in as a donation. Complete with it’s leather case. On power up, got a lot of racket, static, noise etc. As usual, the ferrite rod antenna was broken. Not too much of a problem as if the break is clean and you can keep the 2 bits pressed together, you can get away with things. Tuning around showed that the RF tuning side of things was working, producing peaks and troughs on the output. It felt like the local oscillator was not working. Careful application of the eyeballs and we spotted a stray wire off the oscillator coil on the rod. A bit fiddly to re-solder, but after finding the right spot, we had a lovely working radio. Such a sweet little set.
